Historic bar Literary haunt West village Classic pub Neon sign
Established in 1880, the White Horse Tavern is New York City's second-oldest continuously operating bar. Once a longshoreman's haunt, it became a literary hub in the 1950s, frequented by figures like Dylan Thomas, Jack Kerouac, and Bob Dylan. The bar retains much of its original woodwork and tin ceiling, with a brass rail, horse-head adorned chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling bay windows. An iconic neon sign featuring a glowing white horse head has been a recognizable beacon since 1946.
