    Richmond's Babes of Carytown, established in 1979, is the East Coast's oldest lesbian bar and one of the few remaining nationwide. Located in the heart of Carytown, it offers a lively atmosphere with a spacious dance floor, karaoke nights, and a beach volleyball court on its expansive patio. The bar is known for its welcoming vibe, serving a diverse crowd with signature cocktails and Jell-O shots. Under the ownership of the late Vicky Hester, who passed away in September 2025, Babes became a cherished community hub, hosting drag shows, live music, and supporting local LGBTQ+ events.
