At 428 Greene Street, Captain Tony's Saloon is a storied Key West institution. Originally built in 1851 as an icehouse and morgue, the building has evolved into a lively bar adorned with memorabilia, including bras and dollar bills hanging from the ceiling. The saloon's namesake, Tony Tarracino, was a local legend who served as mayor from 1989 to 1991. Notable patrons have included Ernest Hemingway, Truman Capote, and Jimmy Buffett, who immortalized the bar in his song "Last Mango in Paris." A unique feature is the large Atlantic goliath grouper mounted above the entrance; it's said that tossing a quarter into its mouth brings good luck.
